A flowering vine native to South America, that does very well in hot dry conditions in Africa. Very showy with bright colours, it can grow up to 12m tall. The thorns of this plant are particularly nasty and should be treated with a lot of respect.
Almond trees in bloom make a beautiful showing. I was eating Almond nuts the other day and decided to paint the flowers. Easy to tell that they are part of the Peach Family..
What a pity they don’t last very long, but they are extremely beautiful when in bloom. There are now thousands of hybrids, giving growers a wide choice.
These, paper-like flowers, form in clusters all over the vine, and what a beautiful show they make.
Here is one such cluster, close-up so that you can see the detail.
I think the best way to make plain yellow daisies look special, is to add a generous amount of sunlight.
I love the challenge of a complicated painting like this one. Flowers in front of each other create shadows and depth, so it's rather difficult to make them look realistic. I made many adjustments along the way, till I was satisfied. Hope you like it.
I call these happy flowers, sunshine type happy because that's the way I feel whenever I see them. With colours and detail almost too good to be true, I find myself drawn back to make sure that they are really as good as I thought they were, I'm never disappointed.
Sunbirds and bees, just love magnolia trees that are in bloom. The whole tree is covered in flowers and you don’t have to wait very long to see a range of sunbirds. The more dominant ones chase the others away, creating a lively energetic display of beautiful birds and flowers for your absolute pleasure.
Painting a very detailed background as I have done in this painting, takes a long time and requires a lot of effort. The flower itself has insect damage and is far from perfect. This imperfection and the lighting effects, plus the degree of difficulty, all get me going. I’m very pleased with the results and I sure hope you like it.
A true florist’s flower with all the hybrids, commercial growers produce blooms the whole year round and how beautiful they are.
