Developed in England to catch rats in clothing mills. Nicknamed Yorkie, a very popular companion dog
An English breed bred to guard estates and immobilize poachers. A large heavy dog and said to bark less than other breeds.
An English dog bred for fighting and bull baiting. Now known for their friendly, patient nature, aggression has been eliminated in breeding programs. I love the look and enjoy painting them.
Bred for speed and hunting. Racing on a track is where they are seen mostly these days, but I believe they are becoming popular as show dogs. People take them in as pets when their racing days are over, now that's terrific news and very well done to them.
Scent hounds bred to hunt rabbits. The name Basset is derived from the French word bas, meaning low.
Watching one being taken for a walk the other day, I was surprised to see how low and long they are.
What a sad-looking face, if he had a begging bowl I'm sure I would have put money in to try and make him feel better. Better not tell the tramps, they will be stealing all the Bassets
I just love these dogs. I used to breed and show them, they were treated as normal family pets, but come show day, they seemed to know what the occasion was all about and they were always able to perform at their very best. Determined not to boast, let me just say that a lot of shiny silver stuff ended up at our home.
Legendary symbol of Britishness, but also very popular in America. When used in a company logo it is supposed to reflect the characteristics of honesty, strength and determination. What a great looker, very difficult not to love this one.
